What is REBT Therapy?
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is one of the original forms of cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Developed by psychologist Albert Ellis, REBT focuses on identifying irrational beliefs, actively disputing them, and replacing them with healthier, more rational thoughts.
REBT operates around the ABC model:
- A – Activating Event: A situation that triggers a response
- B – Beliefs: How you interpret the event
- C – Consequences: Emotional and behavioral responses caused by those beliefs
By working through this process, clients learn to reduce shame, guilt, fear, and frustration, replacing reactivity with grounded, values-aligned choices.
REBT Therapy at Plugged In Recovery
At our luxury rehab centers in Phoenix, REBT is integrated into the therapeutic process through one-on-one therapy, group sessions, and life skills training.
REBT helps patients with:
- Chronic stress and anger issues
- Shame and self-blame from past trauma
- Anxiety rooted in perfectionism or fear of judgment
- Emotional patterns that trigger substance use
- Internalized negative beliefs about self-worth
